مع إنتشار الأمراض والأوبئة الخبيثة والتى يتطلب العلاج منها تحمل المريض للكثير من الآلام التى تفوق قدراته فى بعض الأحيان، ظهر مفهوم" القتل الرحيم"، والذي طبقته وإعترفت به بعض الحكومات الاجنبية، ولكن مصر والدول العربية مازالت تراه مخالفا للشرع.
"الدستور" بحثت خلف مدى تطبيق هذا الحل الطبي في دول العالم بما فيها العالم العربي، إلا أن النتائج اختلفت، فبعض الآراء شجعت تطبيقه لكونه رحمة للمريض، وآخر رفضه لكونه تدخل في العناية الإلهية لأن الأطباء بهذا الشكل هم من يحددون موعد إنهاء حياة المريض لا الله.
